To our dear friends and guests,
We are reaching out in dire need for HELP
after damages suffered due to Hurricane Agatha.
On May 30th, 2022, for more than 7 hours, Hurricane Agatha ravaged the coast of Oaxaca and Yiimtii´s Ecological Reserve. Gusts of 195 km/h and continual winds of 175 km/h along with intense rain and flooding has left our home, guest lodging, orchards, and forest damaged and in some cases beyond repair.
Thankfully our family, including our animals, are safe. But the land we have tended and loved for over two decades is wounded. Most painful, is the loss of a good part of our orchard. Many of our fruit trees, which we had nurtured for over 18 years, have died under the pressure of hurricane winds and scouring rains. In addition, the native forest we call home has also taken a toll. Innumerable trees have fallen, all of them special, unique and beautiful living beings. To top it off, our hearts break with unknown and unseen deaths of many animals and birds.
In order to protect these orchards, forests, and beaches, we are financially dependent on a thriving tourist economy, in which guests stay in comfortable accommodations at Yimtii. Our most serious financial impact was the total loss of the Bamboo Cabin, which accounts for 65% of our revenue. We use these funds to care for and maintain Yimtii’s land and coastline. The Bamboo Cabin’s structure was damaged all the way to the foundation, leaving to recover only floors, sink and composting toilet.
We are thus, launching a crowdfunding campaign to gather donations with the HOPE of finding support to replant, restore, repair and rebuild.
We are INFINITELY GRATEFUL for any help that you can provide towards the salvation of Yimtii Ecological Reserve. Your donations help protect 90 acres of tropical deciduous forest and her endemic species which are endangered by habitat loss, agriculture, and poaching. By integrating regenerative human practices into our natural surroundings, we support not only the ecosystem but also 4 local families that depend on Yimtii for their sustenance.
We understand that the lives lost are impossible to recover, but with your help we can KEEP our mission to STEWARD a healthy and diverse ecosystem.
