ECOLOGICAL RESERVE

Inspired from our deep love of Nature, Yiimtii was born from a dream of preserving this extraordinary coastal landscape. Our primary goal is to protect the 90 acres of the roadless tropical forest that forms the Reserve, and to try to live sustainably.

Yiimtii’s forest is known as Dry Tropical Deciduous Forest. On a planetary level, this type of forest is the most devastated by deforestation, much more so than the tropical rainforests. Moreover, dry tropical forests have been little studied and host a huge number of endemic species.

Our local forest is rich in tropical hardwoods such as Ocotillo, Ocotin, Ebano, Palo de Arco, Copal, Plumaria, and the famous lignum vitae, known as guayacan real, to name but a few.

The Reserve is home to tropical deer, coatis, kinkajous, anteaters, raccoons, armadillos, miniature tropical skunks, opossums, coyotes, ocelots, onzas (a wild cat), grey foxes, iguanas, etc.

The forest is blessed with a multitude of spectacular birds, including Trogons, motmots, urracas, chachalacas, parakeets, parrots, woodpeckers, giant frigate birds, etc.

BOUTIQUE ECOLODGE

Hoping to share this marvelous place as well as to give others the opportunity of supporting and getting involved in the Ecological Reserve Project, we conceived exclusive lodging in private cabins that are built almost entirely by our own hands, using the most renewable natural materials and ecological systems in order to awaken consciousness towards a more sustainable way of life. Our accommodations are purposedly built with utter simplicity and openness to encourage a deeper detachment from the busy world as well as a more in-depth connection with the surrounding nature. This concept of Responsible Ecotourism provides an opportunity for people to come, experience, and be part of the local biodiversity while providing a way to protect the forest.

The Eco touristic project was developed at a super small scale so that intimacy and solitude could be experienced during a guest’s stay. Personal Attention is provided from us, Yiimtii’s founders, caretakers and managers. If you need solitude and privacy, we accommodate to even support people on silence retreats, otherwise we love to meet interesting people from around the world, make new friends and share interesting conversations.

We include also the aspect of agritourism by integrating the option to visit our organic gardens and orchard with 40 different fruit varieties and the consumption of our seasonal harvests.

CARETAKERS

Naim and Marytere have been living here since 2001.

Upon finding the land we felt very grateful for the opportunity to be guardians of such a unique and special coastal forest. We both share the same love for nature, the pleasure of being lost for weeks camping in ancient forests, the same dream of living far away from “civilization”.

Our vision directs us to practice a humble and simple way of life, in harmony with nature and human beings, promoting and practicing sustainable ways of life such as fair-trade principles, organic agriculture and appropriate technologies in search for the opportunity to contribute constructively towards Life.

We started receiving guests in 2006. The feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, with many life-changing experiences taking place at Yiimtii. These have inspired us to keep sharing this wonderous land and have helped define our mission as an Ecologically Conscious Education Focal Point and Nature Preserve.

Yiimtii is a seed that has sprouted in our hearts. Yiimtii overwhelms us with beauty and wonder every day as she feeds us and weaves our lives into her magic, convincing us that humans can and must live in utmost harmony with our Mother Planet.
